The latter half of the verse presents two meaningful pairs: Nīrāgā–Rāgamathanī and Nirmadā–Madanāśinī. Nirmadā describes the Goddess as herself free from mada, while Madanāśinī turns the same subject towards grace: She destroys mada in the individual. The central sense here is mada, the intoxication of self-importance born of pride.

The name divides as mada + nāśinī. Mada originally denotes intoxication or exhilaration and, in an ethical and spiritual context, the pride arising from power, learning, wealth, position, lineage, beauty or accomplishment. Nāśinī means one who destroys or removes. The direct construction is therefore “madam nāśayati iti Madanāśinī”: She who destroys mada is Madanāśinī.

An important distinction follows from the grammar. The name should not casually be understood as “the destroyer of Madana, the god of desire.” Madana + nāśinī would normally give Madananāśinī. The principal division of the present name is mada + nāśinī. Bhāskararāya also supplies a second lexical analysis, madana + aśinī, which is considered below.

In the form of worship, “Madanāśinyai namaḥ,” Madanāśinyai is the feminine dative singular: salutation to the Goddess who destroys mada.

Bhāskararāya first states directly that the Goddess destroys mada. He then offers an alternative lexical reading in which madana denotes dhattūra and aśinī means one who consumes it. This second sense is a linguistic alternative; because the name immediately follows Nirmadā, the first sense, the destruction of pride, is the principal meaning in this sequence.

The significance of this interpretation is that Nirmadā and Madanāśinī are not redundant. The former describes Parāmbā herself: mada has no place in Her. The present name describes Her gracious relation to the individual: where mada is present, She is the power that weakens and ultimately removes it.

A particularly close thematic parallel occurs in the eighth chapter of the twelfth Skandha of the Śrīmad Devī Bhāgavatam. After victory over the Asuras, the Devas become proud of their own power. The Supreme Śakti appears as a Yakṣa for their gracious correction. Agni cannot burn a blade of grass, Vāyu cannot move it, and Indra's confidence in independent power also collapses. Manifesting as Umā Haimavatī, the Goddess finally reveals that their power was not an independent possession. This episode is not an etymological proof of the Sahasranāma, but it is a clear scriptural picture of Madanāśinī: the Goddess removes pride and leads the being towards true understanding and refuge.

The Goddess tells the Devas: henceforth abandon in every way the pride born of embodied identity and take refuge in Me, whose nature is Being, Consciousness and Bliss. The removal of pride is therefore not mere punishment; its fruit is recognition of the true refuge and surrender to the Goddess.

From a contemplative perspective, a subtle distinction may be seen between the two pairs in the verse. Rāga binds the mind towards an object, whereas mada arises when a quality, capacity or achievement becomes a ground for self-exaltation. Rāgamathanī can therefore be contemplated as the loosening of attachment, while Madanāśinī points to the dissolution of false ownership and pride surrounding one's attainments. This is an interpretive Śrīvidyā indication and should not be attributed as Bhāskararāya's explicit wording.

The destruction of mada does not mean the destruction of ability, learning, beauty, wealth or responsibility. Learning may remain while pride in learning disappears; wealth may remain while pride in wealth disappears; authority may remain without the impulse to belittle others. Capacity can then cease to be an instrument of self-display and become a gift of the Goddess and an opportunity for service. Madanāśinī may be remembered as the presiding power of this inner purification.

Remembrance of this name does not ask the seeker to deny genuine ability, but to notice the self-importance that may attach itself to ability. When praise, success, knowledge or status is received, one may ask inwardly: “Am I treating this capacity as an independent possession, or as a gift of the Goddess to be used rightly?” Such reflection brings mada into conscious view.

The prayer may be simple: O Madanāśinī, let my capacity remain but destroy the pride born from it; let self-respect remain without the conceit that looks down upon another; may whatever I have received remind me of Your grace and be placed in service.

Madanāśinī is Parāmbā who destroys mada, the intoxication of self-importance arising from power and attainment. Bhāskararāya directly accepts this meaning. The Devī Bhāgavatam's humbling of divine pride shows that this action of the Goddess is not humiliation but grace: the false sense of independent greatness recedes, making room for gratitude, true understanding and surrender.
