The preceding name, Sudhāsārābhivarṣiṇī, described Śrī Lalitāmbikā as showering the stream of nectar from the Sahasrāra. Taḍillatāsamaruciḥ now draws attention to Her extraordinary brilliance within the same yogic sequence. Its primary subject is not a new movement or event, but the Goddess's lustre, compared to a creeper-like streak of lightning flashing across the sky.
Taḍit means lightning or a flash of electricity, while latā means a creeper or vine. Together, taḍillatā evokes the image of a luminous streak extending across the sky like a vine of light. Sama means equal or similar, and ruciḥ here signifies lustre, radiance or brilliance. The direct meaning is therefore: Śrī Lalitāmbikā whose radiance resembles a creeper of lightning.
The explicit comparison in the compound is primarily with ruci, the Goddess's radiance. Therefore the direct meaning should not be reduced to “She who moves with the speed of lightning.” Swiftness may be suggestive in the yogic context, but the grammatical construction places the emphasis on Her lightning-like brilliance.
In the Saubhāgyabhāskara, Bhāskararāya Makhin explains the name through a direct and vivid comparison. He understands taḍit as lightning, latā as a creeper, and ruci as radiance, thus presenting the Goddess's brilliance as comparable to a creeper of lightning. His explanation preserves the visual force of the name: an intense, pure and exceptionally luminous streak of light.
The significance of this explanation is that the Goddess's light is not compared with an ordinary lamp or a merely steady glow. The image of a lightning-creeper suggests an intensely sharp and self-luminous brilliance that instantaneously pierces darkness. Yet the poetic comparison first describes Her radiance; any further yogic implication should be distinguished from that direct lexical meaning.
In the sequence beginning with name 99, Śrī Lalitāmbikā has successively been related to the Mūlādhāra, the granthis, Maṇipūra, Ājñā and Sahasrāra. Within this context, the lightning-like luminosity of Taḍillatāsamaruciḥ can naturally be understood in relation to the radiant presence of the Goddess as Kuṇḍalinī Śakti. The preceding names have portrayed that same Śakti in different stages of the cakra sequence; the present name specifically reveals the brilliance of Her presence.
The image of a lightning-creeper is particularly apt here. Ordinary illumination may appear to reveal a field gradually, whereas a flash of lightning can disclose an entire scene with intense clarity in a single instant. The image therefore communicates both subtlety and brilliance. The word latā further suggests not a rigid beam, but a living, delicate and upward-extending line of luminosity.
It is important to preserve the distinction between the physical body and the subtle yogic description. This series of names concerning cakras, granthis and Kuṇḍalinī employs the traditional language of the subtle body used in yogic worship. It should not be reduced to a literal statement of modern anatomy, nor should the lightning comparison be taken to mean physical electricity flowing through the body.
From a contemplative Śrīvidyā perspective, the lightning-like brilliance may be received as an image of the self-luminosity of consciousness. Just as light does not require another light to make it luminous, the foundational light of awareness is not revealed by some further illumination. Describing the Goddess as possessing lightning-like radiance can thus direct the contemplative mind toward that spontaneously manifest consciousness through which experience and knowing become possible. This is an interpretive implication and does not replace the direct meaning of the name.
A further contemplative suggestion lies in the sudden clarity associated with lightning. The name does not promise that spiritual realization can be mechanically produced, yet the comparison reminds the devotee that truth may cease to be merely an object of prolonged thought and become strikingly clear. The ground of that clarity is the Goddess Herself, for the radiance described here belongs to Śrī Lalitāmbikā.
Remembrance of Taḍillatāsamaruciḥ can inspire the devotee to pray for inner clarity, luminosity and attentiveness. Spiritual practice need not become a search for extraordinary visual experiences. More important is that, amid ignorance, carelessness and forgetfulness of the sacred, remembrance of the Goddess may bring the brightness of alert awareness like a flash of lightning.
One may pray to the Goddess that the intellect does not distort truth, that perception remains illumined by righteous discernment, and that the light of Her remembrance clarifies the appropriate path amid life's complexities. Here the lightning-creeper is not a symbol of fear, but a remembrance of the Goddess's pure and brilliant radiance appearing within darkness.
Taḍillatāsamaruciḥ names the extraordinary radiance of Śrī Lalitāmbikā, brilliant, subtle and luminous like a creeper of lightning. Bhāskararāya makes this direct comparison of radiance the basis of his explanation. Within the Kuṇḍalinī sequence it vividly expresses the Goddess's luminous subtle presence, while contemplatively the same image can remind the devotee of consciousness, discernment and the sudden luminous clarity of truth.
