The preceding names describe Śrī Lalitāmbikā in the Kuṇḍalinī sequence, rising from Mūlādhāra, passing the granthis, and reaching the region of Ājñā and Sahasrāra. The previous name, Taḍillatā-samaruciḥ, described Her radiance as resembling a creeper of lightning. Ṣaṭcakropari-saṃsthitā now expresses the spatial culmination of that movement: the Goddess is firmly established above the six cakras from Mūlādhāra through Ājñā, in Sahasrāra.
ṣaṭ + cakra + upari + saṃsthitā
Ṣaṭ means “six”; cakra here denotes the six well-known centres of the subtle body; upari means “above”; and saṃsthitā, a feminine formation from sam-sthā, signifies being firmly or properly established. The direct meaning is therefore: Śrī Lalitāmbikā who is firmly established above the six cakras.
The six cakras intended here are Mūlādhāra, Svādhiṣṭhāna, Maṇipūra, Anāhata, Viśuddha, and Ājñā. In this reckoning Sahasrāra is not included among the six, but is understood as the higher region beyond them. The word upari, “above,” is therefore essential to the name.
In the Saubhāgyabhāskara, Bhāskararāya Makhin explicitly identifies the six cakras as Mūlādhāra, Svādhiṣṭhāna, Maṇipūra, Anāhata, Viśuddha, and Ājñā. He explains that the Goddess is properly established above all of them in Sahasrāra. Thus, upari is not reduced to a vague statement of superiority; it indicates a definite relation within the yogic subtle-body scheme.
Bhāskararāya’s explanation also accords with the earlier name Sahasrārāmbujārūḍhā. That name positively described the Goddess as having ascended the thousand-petalled lotus; the present name defines the same station in relation to the six lower cakras. The two names are therefore not redundant: one identifies Her presence in Sahasrāra, while the other specifies that this station lies above the six cakras.
The Sahasranāma’s own sequence is important for understanding this name. Beginning with the Goddess dwelling in Mūlādhāra, the description proceeds through the Brahma-granthi, Maṇipūra, Viṣṇu-granthi, Ājñā-cakra and Rudra-granthi before reaching Sahasrāra. The cakras are therefore not introduced as an isolated yogic catalogue; they belong to a continuous Kuṇḍalinī description in which Śrī Lalitāmbikā Herself is presented as the ascending Śakti.
In this sequence, upari does not denote mere physical height. The direct meaning certainly establishes a spatial relation, but the ascent to Sahasrāra is not described as ordinary gross bodily movement. It belongs to the traditional language of the subtle body. Equating these loci necessarily with particular gross anatomical organs or nerve centres would therefore go beyond what the name itself states.
This brief name appears to gather into a single statement the sequence that began with the ninety-ninth name. Mūlādhāraika-nilayā established the Goddess in Mūlādhāra; the granthi names described the overcoming of intervening knots; Sahasrārāmbujārūḍhā described Her ascent to Sahasrāra; Sudhāsārābhivarṣiṇī described the shower of nectar from there; and Taḍillatā-samaruciḥ described Her subtle lightning-like radiance. The present name condenses that sequence into a statement of location: that same Śakti is now established above the six cakras.
Yet Ṣaṭcakropari-saṃsthitā should not be understood as imposing a permanent geographical limit upon the Goddess. The Sahasranāma speaks of Her in Mūlādhāra as well as in Sahasrāra. Such names do not restrict Her omnipresence; they describe particular stations and functions of the Goddess within the language of worship and yoga.
From the standpoint of contemplation, this name may be received as a sign of the completion of an ascent. The upward movement of Śakti through the cakra sequence reminds the devotee that viewing Śrī Lalitāmbikā merely as a dormant power in a lower centre is incomplete. The same Śakti unfolds through the subtle order and is finally described as established in Sahasrāra above it.
“Above” should not be turned into a claim of spiritual superiority or personal status. The subject of the name is the Goddess, not the achievement of the practitioner. Its contemplative indication is that worship becomes increasingly centred and refined as it is oriented toward the supreme station. Initiatory mantra, nyāsa, or restricted internal procedures associated with this domain do not belong to a general explanation of the name.
For the sādhaka, remembrance of Ṣaṭcakropari-saṃsthitā calls for inwardness rather than the pursuit of extraordinary attainments. The prayer may be that Parāmbā lead worship from distraction toward concentration, from fragmentation toward integration, and from spiritual self-assertion toward humble surrender. The Goddess described as established above the six cakras inspires reverence, patience, and fidelity to the Guru tradition at every stage.
Ṣaṭcakropari-saṃsthitā is Śrī Lalitāmbikā firmly established in Sahasrāra above the six cakras named Mūlādhāra, Svādhiṣṭhāna, Maṇipūra, Anāhata, Viśuddha, and Ājñā. The name gathers the preceding Kuṇḍalinī sequence into its higher station and recalls the subtle presence of Parāmbā, manifested throughout the cakra order and established in Sahasrāra above it.
