The preceding names describe Śrī Lalitāmbikā in relation to auspiciousness and her nature as Sādhvī. The name Śaraccandranibhānanā now turns directly to her visible beauty, specifically comparing her face with the autumn moon. The comparison rests not merely on brightness, but on the pure, clear and gentle radiance of the moon seen in the autumn sky.

Śaraccandranibhānanā = śarat + candra + nibha + ānanā.

Śarat denotes the autumn season; through sandhi, śarat + candra becomes śaraccandra. Nibha means resembling or comparable to, while ānana means the face. Thus the expression signifies: She whose face resembles the autumn moon is Śaraccandranibhānanā.

In classical Indian poetic perception, the autumn moon is a distinctive standard of comparison. After the clouds and moisture of the rainy season have cleared, the sky becomes transparent and moonlight appears especially lucid. The name therefore conveys the fullness, purity, luminosity and gentle coolness of the Goddess's face through a single image.

In the Saubhāgyabhāskara, Bhāskararāya Makhin explains the name directly: “śaratkālikena candreṇa tulyam ānanaṃ mukhaṃ yasyāḥ”, she whose face is comparable to the autumn moon. His explanation does not move here toward a remote esoteric interpretation; it gives priority to the beauty of form expressed in the name itself. The primary and decisive sense is therefore the autumn-moon-like radiance of the Goddess's face.

The name does not merely say candranibhānanā, moon-faced, but specifically invokes the autumn moon. On an autumn night the clear sky reveals the lunar disc without a covering of clouds. The comparison therefore suggests not only form, but also lucidity and stainless radiance. Moreover, unlike the intense brilliance of the sun, moonlight is pleasing to the eyes. The Goddess's face is similarly envisioned as radiant yet gentle and soothing.

Verse 44 of the Saundaryalaharī is not a commentary on this Sahasranāma, but it provides a closely related poetic parallel concerning the abundance of the Goddess's facial beauty. There, the beauty of her face is imagined as a wave whose overflowing stream seems to extend into the parting of her hair. This image further illuminates the facial radiance expressed by Śaraccandranibhānanā.

Meaning: O Goddess, may the parting of your hair, appearing like a channel through which the overflowing wave of your facial beauty proceeds, bring us well-being. The vermilion borne there appears like a ray of the newly risen sun held captive amid the darkness of your dense black tresses.

From a contemplative perspective, the purity of the autumn moon may be received as a suggestion of inner clarity, but this should not replace the direct meaning of the name. The name first describes the manifest beauty of the Goddess. While contemplating that form, the sādhaka may experience in her face a luminosity characterized more by peace, clarity and gentleness than by intensity.

The remembrance of Śaraccandranibhānanāyai namaḥ offers an occasion to steady the mind upon the serene, pure and gentle face of the Goddess. The sādhaka's prayer may be simple: just as the moon shines naturally in an autumn sky freed from clouds, may remembrance of Parāmbā quieten the movements of the mind and deepen receptivity to her gentle presence.

Śaraccandranibhānanā is Śrī Lalitāmbikā whose face resembles the autumn moon in purity, fullness, radiance and gentleness. Bhāskararāya receives the comparison in its natural sense of visible divine beauty. In contemplation, this cool luminosity becomes for the sādhaka a presence in which radiance and tranquillity are perfectly harmonious.
