पूर्ववर्ती नामों में राग और मद जैसे बन्धनकारी भावों से देवी की असङ्गता तथा उनके नाश की शक्ति कही गई है। अब निश्चिन्ता नाम उस परम स्वतन्त्रता के एक भिन्न पक्ष को प्रकट करता है: श्रीललिताम्बिका ऐसी चिन्ता से सर्वथा रहित हैं जो स्मृति को दुःख, आशंका और अन्तःकरण के दाह का कारण बनाती है।
The preceding names describe the Goddess as untouched by binding passions such as attachment and pride, and as the power that destroys them. The name Niścintā now reveals another aspect of that supreme freedom: Śrī Lalitāmbikā is entirely free from the kind of anxious recollection that produces sorrow, apprehension and inner distress.
पदच्छेद एवं प्रत्यक्ष अर्थ
निश्चिन्ता = निस् / निर् + चिन्ता। यहाँ निषेध अथवा अभाव का बोध कराने वाला निस् उपसर्ग सन्धि से निश्चिन्ता रूप देता है। सामान्य प्रत्यक्ष अर्थ है: जिसमें चिन्ता नहीं है, वह निश्चिन्ता। स्त्रीलिङ्ग में यह भगवती का विशेषण है।
Niścintā = nis / nir + cintā. The prefix nis, conveying absence or freedom from something, combines with cintā to form Niścintā. Its direct meaning is: She in whom there is no troubling anxiety or distressing concern. It is a feminine adjective qualifying the Goddess.
यहाँ चिन्ता को केवल “सोचना” अथवा “स्मरण करना” मान लेना पर्याप्त नहीं है। नाम का अभिप्राय देवी को ज्ञान, स्मृति या सर्वज्ञता से रहित बताना नहीं, बल्कि दुःखदायी चिन्ता से सर्वथा अतीत बताना है। इसलिए “निश्चिन्ता” का अर्थ असावधान, उदासीन अथवा उत्तरदायित्वहीन होना भी नहीं है।
Here cintā should not be reduced simply to thinking or remembering. The name does not imply that the Goddess lacks knowledge, memory or omniscience; it means that She is wholly beyond distress-producing anxiety. Accordingly, Niścintā does not mean careless, indifferent or irresponsible.
In the Saubhāgyabhāskara, Bhāskararāya gives the name a more precise sense. He explains that although cintā can in general denote recollection, in established usage it particularly signifies a kind of recollection that produces sorrow. Thus, the name primarily negates the distress in which a past or anticipated matter continues to burn within the mind.
Bhāskararāya adds another subtle sense. Recalling a lexicographical meaning of cintā as deceit or guile, he states that the Goddess is free from that as well. In his interpretation, therefore, Niścintā may be understood on two levels: She is free from sorrow-producing anxiety and also wholly free from deceit. This second meaning is not apparent from ordinary modern usage and is a distinctive contribution of his commentary.
The Goddess's freedom from anxiety is not the unconcern that arises from ignorance. A human being may sometimes remain unworried simply because the future is unknown, but that explanation cannot appropriately be applied to Parāmbā. For Her, for whom the entire universe is an object of knowledge, freedom from anxiety does not arise from lack of information but from not being subject to any external circumstance. In this sense, Niścintā is consistent with Her supreme independence.
For the same reason, this name should not be reduced to a general synonym for mental calm. Anxiety arises when acquisition, loss, outcome or uncertainty gains such importance that the mind becomes subject to it. The Goddess awaits no result for the completion of Her being, nor does any outcome increase or diminish Her fullness. Against this doctrinal background, Her state as Niścintā becomes intelligible.
From the contemplative perspective of Śrīvidyā, the name Niścintā may serve as a remembrance of Parāmbā as complete and independent Consciousness. In anxiety, the mind repeatedly returns to an event situated in time and makes its peace dependent upon that event's outcome. The Goddess is beyond such dependence. Past, present and future introduce no deficiency into the completeness of Her being.
यहाँ यह तात्त्विक संकेत भास्करराय द्वारा दी गई शब्दार्थ-व्याख्या का स्थान नहीं लेता। मूल नामार्थ स्पष्टतः चिन्ता के अभाव का है; चैतन्य और स्वातन्त्र्य की यह चर्चा उस प्रत्यक्ष अर्थ को उपासना की दिशा में विस्तृत करती है।
This contemplative indication does not replace Bhāskararāya's lexical explanation. The direct meaning of the name remains freedom from cintā; the discussion of Consciousness and independence simply extends that established meaning into a contemplative perspective.
For the sādhaka, remembrance of Niścintā is not an instruction to suppress anxiety by force. Its devotional orientation may be to perform diligently what lies within one's capacity and, instead of repeatedly burning inwardly over what lies beyond one's control, to place it at the feet of Parāmbā. Such surrender is not carelessness; it is a remembrance of the proper distinction between one's action and its ultimate outcome.
इसलिए इस नाम की प्रार्थना अत्यन्त सरल हो सकती है: हे निश्चिन्ता पराम्बे, मेरे कर्तव्य में जागरूकता बनी रहे, पर फल की आशंका मुझे भीतर से न जलाए; मेरे विचार सत्य और निष्कपट रहें, और मेरा अन्तःकरण आपके आश्रय में स्थिर होना सीखे।
The prayer of this name may therefore be simple: O Niścintā Parāmbā, let me remain attentive to my duty without being inwardly consumed by anxiety over its result; let my thoughts remain truthful and free from guile, and let my heart learn to rest steadily in Your refuge.
Niścintā is Śrī Lalitāmbikā in whom there is no trace of sorrow-producing anxiety and, in Bhāskararāya's additional lexicographical sense, no deceit. Her freedom from anxiety is neither ignorance nor indifference, but a natural expression of supreme independence. For the sādhaka, the name becomes a remembrance to perform one's duty, surrender the inward burning caused by concern over results, and preserve sincerity of heart.
