The preceding names describe Parāmbā as stainless, pure, eternal, formless, beyond the guṇas, partless, peaceful and desireless. The sequence culminates here in Nirupaplavā. The focus of this name is that Śrī Lalitāmbikā, as the Supreme Reality, cannot be destroyed, disintegrated or deprived of existence by any internal or external cause.

Padaccheda: nir + upaplava + ā = Nirupaplavā. In this context, upaplava denotes destruction, a ruinous disturbance, calamity, or a change by which the prior state of something comes to an end. Nir indicates its absence. The feminine form of the adjectival base nirupaplava is Nirupaplavā.

The direct meaning is therefore: “She in whom there is no upaplava, no destruction,” or more simply, “She who is indestructible.” The dative singular used in worship is Nirupaplavāyai namaḥ: “Salutations to the Goddess who is wholly free from destruction.”

Bhāskararāya Makhin directly explains upaplava here as destruction. Thus the Goddess from whom destruction is entirely absent is Nirupaplavā.

This statement in the Saubhāgyabhāskara draws a precise metaphysical consequence from the ordinary meaning of the name. Things that begin, possess parts or depend upon causes are capable of alteration and ending. In this very verse the Goddess has already been called Nityā, Nirguṇā and Niṣkalā. Nirupaplavā completes that description by denying the possibility of destruction: Her supreme reality is not subject to any process capable of bringing it to an end.

Bhāskararāya then gives a more specialised etymological interpretation. He allows nir to convey completeness or intensity rather than mere absence, understands upa in the sense of nearness, and connects plava with an inundating flow of nectar. On this basis, Nirupaplavā acquires an esoteric sense: She through whom the piṇḍāṇḍa, the embodied microcosmic field, is suffused by the flow of nectar. This is not the ordinary lexical meaning of the name but a distinctive Śrīvidyā interpretation supplied by the Saubhāgyabhāskara.

Contextual meaning: Bhāskararāya invokes the Vedic expressions āplavasva and praplavasva in support of his second interpretation. In his context they reinforce the idea of thorough inundation or being pervaded by a nectar-like flow. The passage is used here only in that limited Bhāskararāya-based sense.

From the contemplative standpoint, Nirupaplavā recalls the distinction between the changing world and its ultimate ground. The world of name and form is continually subject to origination, growth, decline and destruction. This name prevents the consciousness in whose light all such changes are known from being treated as itself subject to the same destruction. Change belongs to what appears; the supreme nature of Parāmbā is not destroyed by that change.

The name should therefore not be read as a promise that no external loss or worldly adversity will ever occur. Nirupaplavā primarily declares the indestructibility of the Goddess in Her supreme nature, not the absence of every calamity within changing worldly life. Maintaining this distinction preserves the doctrinal force of the name.

For the sādhaka, remembrance of this name can loosen the tendency to regard impermanent things as permanent. Body, circumstances, relationships and achievements all belong to the sphere of change. In saying Nirupaplavāyai namaḥ, the devotee remembers and takes refuge in that indestructible nature of Parāmbā which witnesses every change without itself being diminished by change. The remembrance is not a demand that adversity disappear, but a reverent return to the imperishable amid what is perishable.

Nirupaplavā is Parāmbā in whom destruction has no place. Alongside this direct meaning, Bhāskararāya offers a specialised second interpretation suggesting an inundating flow of nectar. The central meaning remains clear: whatever arises and changes is perishable, while the supreme nature of Śrī Lalitāmbikā is beyond upaplava and therefore indestructible.
